Mien San REVISITED 7/26/10- :@) :@) :@)

Mien San Noodle House
40-42 Villa Ortigas II
Granada St, Quezon City
721-57-94

Its finally back....NEWLY RENOVATED!

No more yellow, old school, 6 digit signage. No more cockroach infested seats, no more smell and stain of soysauce that spilled on the seats for almost 2 decades.

Mien San is back after a short hiatus on renovations. Now lets see whats new....

better and cleaner looking seats...

same friendly staff....

and

Modern looking booth seats...?

(I highly suggest to avoid the booth seats as it is poorly designed, very uncomfortable, tight, and awkward)

Now onto the food....

Your typical Chinese restaurant fritter...

Cold Tofu and Century Egg :@) :@) :@)

Tofu and century egg dipped in sweet light soy sauce and mashed garlic.

One of the best sellers in Mien San, and is in my opinion...very close, if not exactly like the ones the serve in the streets of Taipei. MUST GET!

Fried Tofu with Taiwanese Kimchi :@) :@) :@)

Another best seller of Mien San. It is PERFECTLY fried as the skin is EXTREMELY crispy, while the tofu itself is soft and VERY juicy. BEST fried tofu in the Philippines.

Taiwanese Beef Noodle :@) :@) :@)

Another MUST GET!
Though still a bit far from the authentic beef noodles in Taiwan, Mien San does a good enough rendition, and probably closest among all the Taiwanese restaurants in this country.

The beef stock is rich, slightly spicy, and flavorful with beef.

Fried Pork Chop :@) :@)

Back home, I live by the restaurant that sells the BEST fried pork chop in Taiwan, so I tend to be VERY strict about this.

Their fried pork chop fits by the Filipino taste as it is slightly sweet. It also comes in a bento box of spicy scrambled eggs, fried vegetables, garlic topped on fried eggplant, and sweet chili sauce.

In Taiwan standards, this is just not up to par. However, all of my friends who haven't been to Taiwan loves it. Because of this, I'de give this a 2 pig star rating instead of just one.

Must get if you haven't been to Taiwan, SKIP IT if you have...you'll just be disappointed.

Soy Fried Chicken Breast on garlic bits- SKIP IT

Not exactly sure what this dish is called, but this newly made dish is disappointing. It was dry, salty, and boring. Not very Taiwanese, and ide suggest the owners to remove this from their menu.

Spicy Wanton :@) :@)

Steamed wonton swimming in spicy sauce. The wonton was as usual Perfect! Al dente, flavorful, and fresh.

For the sauce though, I would say otherwise...

10 years ago, this dish was SPIICCCCYYYYYY! To the point where, ordering this dish alone, would be a dare itself! 5 years later, they revamped it, and made it perfect! It still had that mouth numbing spiciness, while maintaining that fresh succulent wanton.

Now however, its just too localized, and is just no fun anymore. :(

5 years ago, I would HIGHLY recommend this dish. But over the years, and I guess to popular demand, they changed the spicy wanton. In fact, might as well just call it not so spicy wanton.

Still a great dish, and a must get.
______________________________________________________________________

Overall, this restaurant will remain the BEST Taiwanese restaurant in the Philippines.

Great prices, Great food, Friendly Staff, HUGE servings!

Happy Pigout :@)
