Bono Yaki (soft opening): SKIP IT (Until Further Notice)

Here's Bono Yaki. A new eat all you can smokeless grill restaurant that also serves cooked foods and sushi via buffet style. It's located at Libis across Eastwood City.

First lets talk about the unimportant notes. We went here at about 9PM on a Thursday night. The place was totally empty. This could be due to that its been open for a couple of weeks max but one thing we noticed first is that the parking here is extremely inconvenient. So when we finally discovered where the basement parking was we went up the elevator to reach this place. The place is actually pretty beautiful. Its like the restaurant has an identity crisis. The design resembles that of Chinese fine dining restaurants, even though they could've settled for something less luxurious resulting in a less intimidating atmosphere. The staff was high energy, extremely courteous and helpful something I like in restaurants but not particularly in this type of establishment. The reason is this should be 90% self service and I'm getting at service that is at par with some high-end restaurants. Personally, I felt more tense because I was totally expecting the opposite.

Anyway... onto the food

P550/head ($14)

Meat Section...

Most of it is standard (thin slices of meat [beef, chicken, tuna, salmon] good for grilling). At closer inspection though some don't look that fresh which is a big no no for me. Their beef though tasted pretty good.

Places like these often lay out sauces such as yakiniku, barbeque, vinegar etc... Sadly they don't serve sate, which is a big deal for most people who eat in these types of places.

Sushi section...

Run of the mill sushi/maki innovations and some sashimi. I was scared to get some because they were already discolored. The fresh looking ones tasted pretty ok.

Dessert section...

Nothing truly interesting standard fruits and substandard pastry...

One of our plates

Overall I say skip this place. It's cheaper than most but its not worth it. Scary looking sashimi and meats coupled by a few more external setbacks turned me off on coming back to this place.

Happy Pigout :@)

Note: One of my friends hated it so much he said he'll call the place Bono Yucki
